1999 Dove Award Winners: Michael W. Smith had a big year, winning Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year and Best Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year for "Live the Life." Here's the complete list of Dove Award winners.
Grammy Winners: The winners in the Gospel Music categories are:
Digital Regret: Essential Records artist Mukula released their song "Regret" from their debut album Fiction as a MP3 format single. MP3 is a hot compression technology yielding near-CD quality sound. Although the files are compressed, download times still are considerable. Regret, available for download here, is a 4.3 mb file.
Playing for the Pope: The Supertones have been invited to play for the Pope in St. Louis on January 26, 1999.
Carlisle's Nex Big Hit: Bob Carlisle's song "Father's Love" is featured in the Warner Brother's motion picture JACK FROST, starring Michael Keaton and Kelly Preston. The film debuts December 11.
Contemporary Christian Music Crisis Explored: Christian artist/producer Charlie Peacock's new book "At the Crossroads: An Insider's Look at the Crisis in Contemporary Christian Music will be in stores in January 1999.
Sex and Teens: N-Soul Records artist LaKita Garth hosted "The Truth About Sex for Teens" which aired on UPN in Los Angeles. The show also featured A.C. Green of the Dallas Mavericks.
Gold Pages: Fred Hammond's latest album "Pages of Lif - Chapters 1 & 2" received the RIAA gold sales certification for sales of at 500,000 units.
